Bio
Myles Kellerman (b. 1997) is a composer currently studying at Arizona State University for his DMA in Music Composition. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri where he began both his music and composition career at a young age, laying the foundation for a diverse set of influences that would go on to impact his music to this day.
Myles pursued his undergraduate studies at Southwestern University for his Bachelor of Music. While there, he studied composition under Jason Hoogerhyde and guitar under David Asbury. While at Southwestern, Myles would write for various ensembles including writing for the university’s jazz ensemble, percussion ensemble, and new music ensemble.
After graduating from SU, Myles attended DePaul University where he would earn his master’s degree in music composition. Under the guidance of Christopher Wendell Jones, Osnat Netzer, and Ronald Caltabiano, Myles's compositions evolved into a fusion of other musical influences and post serial techniques combining to solidify his identity as a composer. It was in Chicago where he would write for ensembles such as Transient Canvas, Ensemble Dal Niente, and DePaul’s own new music ensemble: 20+.
Myles's continued musical exploration led him to Arizona State University. Under the mentorship of Alex Temple, Gabriel Bolaños, and Jody Rockmaker, Myles's compositions reached new heights, embracing a diverse range of influences and styles. Including an emphasis on the incorporation of spectralism, electronics, and speech. His time at Arizona State University has not only deepened his understanding of composition but has also fostered an environment for experimentation and innovation. As he approaches the culmination of his DMA, Myles eagerly awaits the next chapter in his musical journey.
